June 2, 2011 — Amanda Franklin, who passed away May 27 after a courageous struggle to overcome severe injuries suffered in a March 12 plane crash while performing with her husband, Kyle, will be laid to rest next Tuesday, June 7, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, according to a message posted to the both the Younkin Air Shows and Franklin Flying Circus Facebook pages. Michelle Younkin wrote that her husband, Amanda’s brother Matt Younkin, had the honor of piloting Amanda’s final flight back to Siloam Springs, Arkansas, on Tuesday, May 31.

“He tells me that this went amazingly well, thanks to the help and support of Lulu and the rest of the personnel at the San Antonio Air Traffic control facility who arranged a special call sign, ‘AMANDA1,’ that we were able to use all the way back to Fayetteville Arkansas,” she wrote.

Amanda’s service will be held at 10 a.m. at the Fayetteville Arkansas First Baptist Church. Graveside services will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens, followed by a reception at the Fayetteville Country Club. A mass flyover will be held at the cemetery, about which Michelle writes:

“Anyone who wishes to participate in the mass flyover of the cemetery who has a F.A.S.T, F.F.I., and/or S.A.C. rating is more than welcome to participate. For safety reasons, anyone not holding these credentials needs to contact Matt at younkinair@aol.com for prior approval to participate; deadline for those individuals to notify us is Saturday, June 4. We would like to stress that anyone qualified is welcome to participate, but no one needs to feel obligated if they wish to be a part of the services on the ground.”

People who anticipate attending are being asked to monitor the Facebook pages in the coming days for RSVP details and other information. In addition, a fundraiser to help Kyle Franklin with living and medical expenses is scheduled June 4 for the Franklins at the Commemorative Air Force RGV Wing headquarters at the Brownsville South Padre International Airport. Donations can also be made to AIR FIESTA, P.O. Box 8190, Brownsville, TX 78526. (Learn more here.)

There has also been a fund set up for the Franklins by the ICAS Foundation. Learn more here.
