Pioneer Airport Set to Open This Weekend
Pioneer Airport opens for the 2012 season the weekend of May 12-13.
May 10, 2012 - Savor the sights and sounds of aviation's "Golden Age" at Pioneer Airport, which opens for the season this weekend, May 12-13, at EAA Oshkosh. More than 50 vintage airplanes are displayed in seven unique hangars that take visitors back to the 1920s and 1930s when the magic of flying astounded and charmed the whole world.
Fascinating displays include a tribute to the legendary air racer, designer, and builder Steve Wittman. Flights from Pioneer Airport's grass runway are also available in a variety of aircraft for an additional fee. All flights are subject to weather conditions and aircraft availability. Younger visitors can enjoy a play area with swings and pedal planes, while a free Young Eagles flight may be available for those between ages 8 and 17.
Pioneer Airport is open 11:30 a.m.-4:40 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday until Memorial Day weekend, then it's open daily through Labor Day weekend.
Admission to Pioneer Airport is included in regular museum admission. As always, EAA members are admitted free to the EAA AirVenture Museum.
