New Resources Help Pilots, Instructors Meet New Practical Test Standards

June 21, 2012 - The FAA Safety Team has released an updated advisory circular for flight review and instrument proficiency check, and added a new appendix to the Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge (PHAK) to help pilots and instructors prepare for new Practical Test Standards (PTS).

The new PHAK appendix chapter, Runway Incursion Avoidance, includes all the information that pilots will be tested and checked on during their private or commercial PTS effective as of June 1, 2012. Until the new chapter is officially released, it can be reviewed on the FAA Safety website.

Revised AC 61.98B, Currency Requirements and Guidance for the Flight Review and Instrument Proficiency Check, will help aviators become proficient in what is required today to ensure the safety of flight.

The FAA strongly encourages both pilots and flight instructors to review these new materials.
