January 31, 2013 - Since being launched nearly five years ago, EAA's Hints for Homebuilders video series has been by far our most popular single online offering. Next week will mark the 300th "hint" featured in e-Hotline, and the hints have generated a total of more than 3.1 million views to date.

Homebuilders will be pleased to know that this week featured a marathon shooting session with Dick and Bob Koehler, resulting in dozens more brief, informative builder tips that will be featured in the coming months.

In the true spirit of EAA members helping other members, the Koehler brothers are two of the 37 people who have volunteered over the years to stand in front of the camera and share a hint that others may find useful.

"Our appreciation goes out to all of these volunteers for sharing their experience with others," said Timm Bogenhagen, EAA member products specialist. "People just love the content and the opportunity to watch a short video and learn something new. Feedback has been extremely positive literally since day one."

The Koehler brothers were in town serving as instructors at last weekend's EAA SportAir Workshops in Oshkosh. Both are retired and active aircraft owners, EAA technical counselors, chapter members, and A&P/IA mechanics. Some of the subjects you can look forward to seeing in forthcoming Hints include servicing brakes, checking engine compressions, servicing fuel systems, painting, antenna installation, and mounting an instrument in the panel.

Due to popular demand, EAA produced two Hints for Homebuilders DVDs - Building Techniques and Sheet Metal Vol. 1 - available through EAA's online store, separately or in a specially priced package. Plans are to produce additional DVDs, which are convenient and accessible for group viewing, and chapter settings, Bogenhagen said.

If you have an idea or hint that you want to share, please pass it along to Bogenhagen at tbogenhagen@eaa.org.
