Company to Produce, Distribute Premium Autofuel for GA

May 23, 2013 - EAA welcomes this week's announcement from Arizona-based Airworthy AutoGas LLC that beginning this fall the company plans to produce and distribute Airworthy AutoGas, an ethanol-free, 93 octane, premium unleaded automotive gasoline (roughly equivalent to 87 octane avgas).

EAA and Peterson Aviation each hold autofuel supplemental type certificates that allow owners of production airplanes with engines certificated for avgas to safely use autofuel.

According to the company, dramatic increase in the use of ethanol as an emissions-reducing oxygenate in recent years combined with inconsistent volatility characteristics between seasons, regions, and geographies can make traditional automotive gasoline unsuitable in aircraft and potentially compromise airworthiness.

Airworthy AutoGas claims a patent-pending formulation that meets or exceeds the requirements of ASTM D4814, Lycoming Engines SI-1070 "S" specifications, and the EAA and Petersen Aviation STCs.
