Waco Presents First Great Lakes Production Biplane

Great Lakes Biplane

June 11, 2013 - Waco Classic Aircraft Corporation, of Battle Creek, Michigan, unveiled its first conforming new production Great Lakes 2T-1A-2, and customer deliveries are expected to start within 90 days.

The airplane features a 180-hp Lycoming AEIO-360 fully aerobatic engine, fuel injection, and a Hartzell aerobatic propeller. Avionics include a TRIG TY91 comm radio, TRIG TT22 transponder, Garmin AERA-500 touch-screen GPS with ADS-B Datalink (weather and ADS-B traffic), and a JPI-930 fully electronic engine analyzer and performance computer.

Production of the first three customer aircraft is well underway. The company said it plans an initial production rate of one airplane per month.

The project to reintroduce the classic biplane started less than two years ago, and the company claims it to be the only new American manufactured piston aircraft to be brought to market in the last 15 years.
