20,000 Young Eagles Take the Sporty's Online Learn to Fly Course
June 25, 2013 - The EAA Young Eagles Program and Sporty's have reached a new milestone in their joint efforts to advance aviation as 20,000 Young Eagles have now enrolled in the Sporty's Online Learn to Fly Course.
When youths ages 8-17 receive a free flight through the EAA Young Eagles program, they are eligible to enroll in the Sporty's course for free. The $199 course prepares students to take the FAA written exam.
"We're delighted that more than 20,000 Young Eagles have now taken advantage of Sporty's offer to access our Learn to Fly course at no charge," says Sporty's President Michael Wolf. "We are proud our course is a key component of the EAA Young Eagles Flight Plan, which may be the most productive aviation youth program ever."
EAA also reimburses Young Eagles for the $150 cost of taking the FAA written exam when they pass. Plus when a Young Eagle completes the first three volumes of the Sporty's course they will receive a voucher for a free flight lesson at a local flight school.
"We would like to thank Sporty's for its continuing support of Young Eagles," said Brian O'Lena, manager, EAA Young Eagles and Youth Pathways. "Sporty's Learn to Fly course is an excellent opportunity for young people to further engage in aviation and progress on the path to flight. It's a cornerstone of the Young Eagles Flight Plan."
The EAA Flight Plan was developed in 2010 with the key sponsorship from Sporty's. O'Lena says hundreds of students have taken advantage of the course and passed their written exam thus far. EAA also offers numerous flight training scholarships every year to deserving young aspiring pilots.
