AirVenture Theme Days Help You Plan the Week
July 18, 2015 - So many things are happening every day at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh it’s impossible to experience it all. But some activities deserve a special spotlight.
Each day of the convention has a theme all its own, covering everything from innovation to homebuilding to history, as well as some of the most notable personalities in aviation along with unique aircraft.
Here are your 2015 AirVenture Theme Days:
Monday, July 20: Opening Day Celebration - The World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration opens, with forums, air show, and the famed Opening Night concert on Boeing Plaza with country music sensation Dierks Bentley.
Tuesday, July 21: Rutan Legacy Day - Legendary designer Burt Rutan returns to Oshkosh this year on the 40th anniversary of the VariEze. The day includes a Homebuilts in Review session on canard design, numerous Rutan designs displayed on Boeing Plaza, and a Theater in the Woods evening program, Garage to Garage, highlighting Rutan’s 46 airplane types that have flown and a history of the Rutan Aircraft Factory.
Wednesday, July 22: Honoring the Apollo 13 Mission - Activities include Apollo 13 forum presentation in Honda Aircraft Forum Pavilion 7, 11:30-12:45, with flight directors Gene Kranz and Milt Windler and Bill Reeves, lunar module flight controller. Cap off the day at Theater in the Woods for an Apollo 13 program hosted by David Hartman and featuring Cmdr. James Lovell, lunar module pilot Haise, Kranz, Windler, and Reeves.
Thursday, July 23: Gateway to Innovation - The latest and greatest in aircraft design, unmanned aerial systems, and more. Visit Aviation Gateway Park’s Innovation Center, Drone Cage, and it’s Space Night at Theater in the Woods, with reports from NASA on the agency’s centennial and a look into the Orion spacecraft project—the exploration vehicle that will carry astronauts farther into space than ever before.
Friday, July 24: Salute to Veterans - Honoring those who served and are serving, starting at dawn with the Yellow Ribbon Honor Flight for Vietnam veterans departing for Washington, D.C. The day also includes a Veterans Parade, warbirds air show, a rousing welcome home for the Honor Flight vets, and a special concert with Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band on Boeing Plaza.
Saturday, July 25: World War II Tribute - From the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain to the 70th anniversary of the end of the war, a look at the era through the eyes of aviation.
Sunday, July 26: Only on Sunday - See some awesome aircraft departures that can only be seen at Oshkosh! Also remember the air show starts at 1 p.m. That’s earlier than normal. Sunday air show highlights include Goodyear airship Wingfoot One; Luca Bertossio (Swift S-1 glider); U.S. Marines AV-8B Harrier II demo team; USAF F-4 Phantom II, and F-22 Raptor demonstration and Heritage Flights.
