‘ONE WEEK WONDER’ PROJECT BRINGS TOGETHER AVIATION COMMUNITY AT EAA AIRVENTURE OSHKOSH 2018

Numerous companies play a part to support unique airplane build at Oshkosh

EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wisconsin — (May 31, 2018) — After tremendous success and popularity in its 2014 debut, the One Week Wonder airplane building project will be returning in 2018 with the support from not only aviation enthusiasts, but from companies within the aviation community.

EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, the 66th annual Experimental Aircraft Association fly-in convention, is July 23-July 29 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh.

The goal of One Week Wonder is to construct, inspect, and ground test the aircraft during the weeklong AirVenture event. The One Week Wonder project allows EAA staff and experienced volunteers to show how people can build their own aircraft through understanding the high technical standards in today’s homebuilt aircraft and EAA support programs for builders. Attendees will be able to have their own hands-on experience in the construction process and sign the logbook as one of the builders.

The aircraft chosen for this year’s One Week Wonder will be a RV-12iS, a popular kit aircraft created and donated by Van’s Aircraft. The aircraft was chosen for its popularity, ease of construction, and smooth flying characteristics. Van’s Aircraft will also be celebrating the 10,000th RV flying during AirVenture 2018.

Additional donations from sponsors include a Rotax aircraft engine; Garmin avionics; Bose headsets; seats and interior from Flightline Interiors; a propeller from Sensenich Propeller Mfg. Co., Inc.; tires from The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company; and wheels and brakes from MATCO mfg. In addition, SteinAir is providing its technical expertise in avionics work during the project.

Some donations from sponsors include interactive elements with attendees, such as Sherwin-Williams Aerospace sponsoring the Pick the Paint Poll that allows voters to choose among Scheme Designers, Inc. designs, and Aircraft Spruce & Specialty giving away One Week Wonder collector pins for anyone who pulls a rivet on the plane during AirVenture week.

“To showcase the possibilities of the RV-12iS in such a public way as at Oshkosh is extremely exciting. I’m definitely looking forward to watching this building project’s success,” said Van’s Aircraft founder and EAA Lifetime Member Richard VanGrunsven.

Construction will begin at 8 a.m. on Monday, July 23 — AirVenture’s opening day — with a goal for completion by the end of the afternoon air show on Sunday, July 29.
