The Spirit of EAA Chapter Cooperation

By Bret Steffen, EAA Director of Education, EAA Lifetime 870589

August 14, 2014 - Chapters can achieve more when they work together! I recently had the opportunity to attend the AOPA Fly-In held in Plymouth, Massachusetts. I was there representing EAA headquarters and was looking forward to learning more about the EAA chapters in the area, plus doing what I could to support them at the event. It was obvious that a single chapter would have struggled to provide the people-power it takes to put on the pancake breakfast for such a large fly-in. This wasn’t a single chapter effort, though; the folks in EAA Chapter 106 had successfully reached out to people throughout the region, and the fly-in was a major success for them.

As I reflected about what I witnessed in Plymouth, it became clear: What made the day successful was the cooperation of a number of chapters and EAA members. Furthermore, the success wasn’t just feeding breakfast to the folks attending the fly-in - it was the camaraderie that was palpable in the EAA tent and the food prep tent. Once again it is all about the people. EAA creates such passion for aviation because of our relationships with each other. I’m very privileged to be able to enjoy a part of it.
