Journeying With the Phillips 66 Aviation EAA Flight Training Award Winner

Phillips 66November 2017 - Phillips 66 Aviation has been keeping up with Ben Van Handel, the first recipient of the Phillips 66 Aviation EAA Flight Training Award. The award provides $13,200 to help make an individual’s dreams of flight a reality. Ben is currently training at the Phillips 66 Aviation-branded Fond du Lac Skyport and has 32.5 hours of flight time, with just under eight of those being solo hours.

Recently, Ben embarked on his first true solo cross-country flights. On one of the flights, he departed from KFLD (Fond du Lac, Wisconsin) to KCLI (Clintonville, Wisconsin) to KPCZ (Waupaca, Wisconsin) and back to KFLD. The other flight was a longer round trip from KFLD to KAIG (Langlade County, Wisconsin), then back to KFLD.

“I just completed a night flight with my instructor and enjoyed the new perspective it had to offer,” Ben said.
