EAA Chapter 91 Wins a Welder!
September 2021 –Sometimes things happen in mysterious ways. EAA Chapter 91 member Larry Rhoads, EAA Lifetime 804437, stopped by the Blue Barn during AirVenture 2021 to put a chapter location pin in the map and someone suggested he fill out a card for the chapter drawing. He did and left the building without asking about the prize. Imagine his surprise when he got a call telling him that Chapter 91 had won a welder. Not just any welder, but a really nice Lincoln TIG 200 Square Wave set!
EAA Chapter 91, located in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, has a chapter tool crib program, but no welder before winning the drawing. “Winning the Lincoln welder will allow the chapter to teach welding skills for the first time,” said EAA Chapter 91 President Mike Dooley when he heard of the win. “We’re coordinating for space at an off-airport facility since our lease agreement with the city prohibits welding at the airport. The welder is an outstanding addition to our tool crib and aircraft construction skill development programs.”
An additional obvious reason to make sure all your chapter info is correct is so that folks trying to reach out to you are able to do so. Few things are as frustrating to someone trying to get in touch with your chapter as bounced emails or phone numbers that don’t work. Sounds like a surefire way to turn a prospective member off to your chapter, something you definitely don’t want! Check your chapter listing on EAA.org/findachapter today and make sure your chapter information is up to date.
The chapter is currently shopping for welding accessories, including a welding cart, gas bottle, welding helmets, etc. to get ready for the first class. Professional metal fabricator Tab Sunderland will provide instruction in the basics of Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW). Several chapter members have already expressed an interest in learning how to weld using the new equipment.
