Enhancing Wx Knowledge and Training Methods
11:30 AM - 12:45 PM
Location: NAFI Booth
Presenter: Gary Pokodner
Adverse weather continues to provide challenges for safe and efficient aviation operations. These challenges are attributable to numerous factors including regions with little or no radar coverage such as the Gulf, Alaska, and Caribbean, difficulties for pilots to estimate visibility, and limitations of flight planning tools to enable three-dimensional planning to avoid adverse conditions. Other factors include weather information latency, utility of VFR Not Recommended (VNR) statements, lack of ceiling and visibility information in remote areas, and pilot weather training that does not provide experience in adverse weather conditions. This session is intended for flight instructors to highlight weather knowledge areas identified as lacking by pilots, to enhance instructor ability to teach aviation weather, and to provide information on new weather products including their limitations and enhanced benefits.
