Wed, Jul 24, 2019 - Wed, Jul 24, 2019
10:00 AM - 11:15 AM

Location: Vette Theater

Presenter: Dr Leo Murphy

On May 5, 1944 Lt James Polkinghorne, Jr, a member of the famed Tuskegee Airmen, disappeared while flying a combat mission in a P-39 Airacobra over Italy. Last seen descending into thick cloud coverage for a strafing mission in support of the Allied advance on Rome, he is virtually unknown and rarely mentioned in accounts of the Tuskegee Airmen. Dr Murphy will discuss his biographical research of Lt Polkinghorne as well as the history of early black aviation and the Tuskegee Airmen.
