The use of TIG to weld and fuse aluminum is common place in many aviation fabrication and repair. What most builders may not be familiar with is that before aluminum was arc welded it was brazed. Many of the modern brazing processes actually result in a joint that is stronger than the base metal itself. A review of alloy groups and their weldability as well as base and filler metal combinations to minimize cracking of the weld will be discussed and demonstrated.
