Mikey and Joe McBryan Address the Canada Breakfast

August 2019 - You probably read last month that Mikey McBryan of the Ice Pilots TV show was going to address our Canadian members breakfast, and so he did, with the bonus of his dad, Joe McBryan, also saying a few words. We "sold out" of tickets for this annual free breakfast very quickly, and many were disappointed they couldn't attend the event, where 250 delicious breakfasts were served. Global Aerospace, our insurance partners for C-PLAN, once again sponsored the event and has said it would consider increasing the number of breakfasts served next year, although we'd need a bigger tent.

Joe McBryan spoke briefly, and Mikey gave us a firsthand description of his project to bring a derelict DC-3 back to life, fly it to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day, and fly it to Oshkosh. I mentioned this in our June editorial, and you can still find it here. We were delighted to see C-FDTD on the flightline with its fresh paint job and looking splendid. You'll also find a teaser on YouTube of what airplane Mikey might save next.

We were also very happy to present Jack Dueck with a plaque honouring his lifetime of commitment to EAA in Canada. As well as being my predecessor as editor of this newsletter, Jack was an MD-RA inspector, a chapter founder, a driving force behind SportAir workshops both in Canada and the United States, and a true leader in the mission of encouraging more people to become members of EAA. The Canadian Council was lucky to have him as our chairman for so many years, and I'm sure you will all join me in thanking Jack for his many devoted years of service. We wish you good health, Jack, for many more years to come, and thank you for all you've done for us.

Jack Dueck is still active in other areas, like the SportAir workshops and EAA's Canadian not-for-profit, EAA Canada Inc., but we're happy to say, after his years of heavy lifting at the Canada Tent, "We've got this, Jack. Put up your feet for a few moments."
