Donate Your Tools if You're Done — You Might Benefit

October 2021 – Last month we featured an article by Scott Knowlton on helping out a neighbour of an amateur aircraft builder who had passed away. She needed help clearing out his treasure trove of tools and didn't understand their value. Scott mentioned the sentiment that maybe we should all consider doing this before it's too late.

Are you in the category of someone who has probably built his or her last airplane and doesn't need to hold on to all those tools? Why not consider donating them through EAACanada.ca and get a tax receipt?  Someone just starting out is sure to value those unused items a lot more than those unfamiliar with the significant costs involved in getting “tooled up” to start building an aircraft.

The purpose of EAA Canada, which is a registered charity, is to donate funds to young people just getting started in aviation. You need to be a registered charity in order to be able to give tax receipts, and your local chapter just hasn't the resources to do this. This is partly why EAA Canada was formed, to provide such a resource for chapters and individual donors. EAA Canada has the ability to accept and provide tax receipts for donated items of value. However, the Canada Revenue Agency has specific rules about how such donations are valued for tax receipt purposes.
