I'm OK, You're OK! Medically Speaking

By Ian Brown, Editor, EAA 657159

November 2020 – If your medical expires before 31 March, 2021, you're OK! If you're healthy, and who would want to fly if you're not, thanks to COVID-19 special measures, you can self-attest to your fitness to fly by downloading this form and signing two copies, both witnessed if you have a category 1, 2, or 3 medical. One copy should be sent to your regional Transport Canada office and you should hold on to the other copy. By doing this you'll add a year to the validity of your medical.

When does your medical expire?

This is the wording from Transport Canada's website.

"Category 1,2,3, Medical certificate (MC) holders expired or expiring between 17 March, 2020, and 31 March, 2021, (inclusive), with no change in medical condition and none of the limitations listed below can renew their Medical Certificate by Attestation.

Category 1,2,3 MC holders expired or expiring between 17 March, 2020, and 31 March, 2021, (inclusive) who have had changes in medical condition or have one of the listed limitations are eligible for a telemedicine consult. This remote consult will determine fitness for civil aviation or the need for an in person examination.

Cat 1,2,3. Applicants expired prior to 17 March, 2020, will require an in person examination.

There is no change in process for any new applicants."

The Attestation of Fitness should be completed within 90 days prior to the expiry of your medical. It will extend the validity of your medical certificate for one year from the original date of expiry. If your medical expires this year, you'll need to do this now.
