From the Archives — Fifty Years Ago: EAA Canada and Herb Cunningham

December 2021 – Herb Cunningham lived in Scarborough, Ontario, and was the president of the Experimental Aircraft Association of Canada, an organization that now comes under the umbrella of the EAA Canadian Council.

Ah that was the heyday! You will see in the attached article that Herb was central to our history half a century ago.

Fifty years ago he said “We occasionally hear complaints that there is not enough about Canada in SPORT AVIATION, and I would like to point out that it is our own fault — EAA will gladly print material but someone has to submit it first.” Well, nothing has changed. EAA is kind enough to allow us to produce our own newsletter, and they format and distribute it to our Canadian membership at no charge to Canadians but the content comes from a very few stalwarts. If you're feeling like you have something to say, or know someone that would, why not stop what you're doing and put a note in your calendar to put something together for Bits and Pieces? If you'd like some suggestions on what would be popular, how about:

• An article on your aircraft's history? It doesn't have to be particularly old, just interesting.
• A brief article on a gizmo that you installed in your aircraft?
• A flying adventure that was significant? We've published a number of those this year.
• Your experience forming a new chapter, or revitalizing an existing one?
