IMC Clubs Now Part of EAA—Canadian Impact?

The recent announcement by EAA that it had formed a relationship with IMC Clubs under the banner of EAA IMC LLC caused us to look into the existence of IMC Clubs in Canada. There is only one for the moment, and it is in Calgary. EAA will produce all future programming for IMC Clubs. You can find out more about IMC Clubs here.

The members of Calgary Flying Club joined IMC Club about two years ago. Most are also EAA members. We joined to get more relevant content into our own IMC-type meetings where IFR-rated club members and speakers would relate anecdotal experiences in IMC. We felt the concept of shared experiences was a good model, so it fit well with the IMC model. The IMC resources added a broader dimension of experiences to share, and we feel it adds value to the time we spend at our gatherings at the Calgary Flying Club. The content is a mix of IMC scenarios and our own contributions, and occasionally material from AOPA.

Since the rules of flying IMC (International Civil Aviation Organization and weather gods) are fairly universal, we find the IMC scenarios relevant to us in Canada. The scenarios are well-documented, and I expect they will improve with the wider resources and source of scenarios from the much larger EAA membership base.

Generally there are about a dozen of us who get together on the first Wednesday evening of every month (except July and August). Drop by the Calgary Flying Club at the Springbank Airport when you are in the neighbourhood.
