From the Archives — Gogi's S.E.5A Replica

By Ian Brown, Editor

December 2020 – Read this fascinating story from the December issue of EAA Sport Aviation 50 years ago about the efforts to build not one but five S.E.5A replicas in Richmond, British Columbia. In the end two were built. The author was C.R. "Gogi" Goguillot. It's intriguing to note that the efforts to find a paint colour match resulted in the conclusion that the perfect match was "American Telephone and Telegraph Service Truck Green." One wonders if these were the aircraft that were taken to Normandy for the 75th anniversary of D-Day.

Motorcyclists among our readers might also be interested to note that the wheels used in the replicas were motorcycle wheels converted with larger bearings and fabric covers.
