An AirVenture Promise

By Ian Brown, Editor

February 2021 – With the recent announcement that SUN 'n FUN will go ahead, with pandemic precautions in place, we're optimistic for EAA AirVenture Oshkosh and all that it could hold. Much of the final detail is still up in the air, like camping procedures, spacing in forums, mask guidelines, and so on. The hope is that many of our Canadian members will be up in the air, too, and on their way to Oshkosh near the end of July.

SUN 'n FUN is an annual ritual for many Canadian snowbirds, but most were unable to make the trip to Florida this year. Let's hope that the SUN 'n FUN experience is still an excellent one. Many significant air show performers will be there from April 13-18, and since it will be the first live air show experience for many of us in quite a while, we'll probably learn a lot about what our annual pilgrimage to Oshkosh might entail. We won't be quite through the vaccination logistical nightmare by April, but hopefully the summer will constitute a rebirth of our flying passion.

Sadly, we just learned that Tom Dietrich, head of the famous Guelph, Ontario, based Tiger Boys passed away on February 17, 2021. He was the registered owner of Bits and Pieces, the amateur-built Baby Ace after which our newsletter was named. James Ainslie wrote in memory of Tom, "Someone so special will not be forgotten. A great, quiet man of great wisdom. I will miss our conversations at camp in Oshkosh. The Tiger Boys will never be the same. Bob Revell, my thoughts are with you also, as I know you are heartbroken at the loss of your long time friend. God bless Tom's family and all of my Canadian friends."

Tom Dietrich.

Every month, we thank our authors (as we do this month) and encourage readers to contribute something to our newsletter (as we do this month). We can even ghost-write something, given the information and a few photographs. Do it now. We'd love to hear from you!
