Pelton, EAA Staff Meet With Government Officials in D.C.

March 7, 2013 - Over the past two weeks members of EAA's advocacy and safety staff, as well as Chairman Jack Pelton, have been involved in several important meetings in Washington, D.C.

The meetings come during a tumultuous time in our nation's capital, which has seen indiscriminate spending cuts triggered by the so-called sequestration last week with a deadline for an agreement for funding the government later this month.

Joining Pelton were Vice President of Advocacy and Safety Sean Elliott, Vice President of Government Relations Doug Macnair, and Government Advocacy Specialist Tom Charpentier. They spent several productive days in Washington meeting with top-level executives of industry associations on the next steps to ensure the future of piston aviation fuel, as well as attending a special EAA/AOPA joint policy summit to ensure a clear and united message to policymakers from the two organizations.

In addition, part of the team attended a meeting of the General Aviation Joint Steering Committee, an FAA-industry organization dedicated to improving GA safety through an analytical and data-driven approach. The group is patterned on previous successful efforts to enhance airline safety through similar partnerships.

"We made efficient use of our time in Washington to voice the concerns of our membership and build partnerships with industry and government agencies," Elliott said. "Countless pilots, builders, and aviation enthusiasts rely on us to be their voice in Washington, and we never lose sight of that."
