EAA Runway 5K Means $12K for United Way

October 3, 2013 - EAA's annual Runway 5K Run/Walk held during AirVenture 2013 meant not only fun for fly-in attendees and local residents, but also a boost to the Oshkosh Area United Way, this year's community beneficiary.

The race, held this year on August 3 on the AirVenture grounds and Wittman Regional Airport, raised more than $12,300 for the United Way and the 51 programs in the Oshkosh area that benefit from United Way support.

"This run was launched several years ago as a way for EAA to help support our community, and bring together our attendees and local residents for a great cause while having fun," said Elissa Lines, EAA vice president of business and donor relations. "AirVenture attendees appreciate the Oshkosh community and for the one week each year when they live here, Oshkosh is their hometown in a very special way."

More than 800 participants ran or walked through aircraft parking areas and the airport grounds on August 3. The number of participants has steadily grown for the event since it began in 2008. All participants were also invited to attend AirVenture for the day, which included afternoon and night air shows, fireworks and all other AirVenture activities.

"This race is an excellent way for those who attend AirVenture and those here in the community to support the United Way's efforts in Oshkosh," said Stew Rieckman, Chairman of the 2013 Oshkosh Area United Way campaign. "Partnering with EAA to benefit all our programs supports both the tremendous AirVenture event and those who are working to solve our community's most pressing needs."
