September 18, 2014 - EAA Young Eagles Chairman Sean D. Tucker provided some special flights Thursday in advance of this weekend’s Oregon International Air Show at Hillsboro Airport just outside Portland. As he does at each venue he performs at, Tucker took a youngster on a Young Eagles flight and also a Young Eagles volunteer on an aerobatic flight, both in the Team Oracle Extra 300.

The Young Eagles pilot was Rion Bourgeois, EAA 326742, of Canby, Oregon. Rion (pronounced Ryan) flies an RV-4, and has flown 149 Young Eagles since 1997.

The youngster was Sullivan Maag, age 11, who was alerted by his grandfather about the “Take Flight” essay contest for kids to enter for the flight. In the essay, Sullivan wrote:

“I have loved aviation since I was very young. When I was one year old I would point up at the sky and shout “EE-AH” and before long a plane or helicopter would appear into my parents view. My obsession with aircraft started there.”

Tucker is scheduled to perform in the Oracle Challenger III biplane on Friday evening and then lead off both Saturday and Sunday air shows, which begins at 11:30 a.m. Visit the air show website for more information.
