Mooney Introduces Airplanes at Airshow China
November 12, 2014 - Mooney International announced two new turbo diesel-powered airplanes today at the opening of the China International Aviation & Aerospace Exhibition (Airshow China) 2014, which runs from November 11-16 in Zhuhai, China. The Mooney M10T is a two-place, fixed-gear composite trainer equipped with Continental’s four cylinder inline CD-135 (135 hp) diesel engine. The two-place M10J adds amenities for the owner-pilot, the more powerful Continental CD-155 (155 hp) turbodiesel, and retractable landing gear. Mooney plans to begin deliveries in 2017.
Mooney’s goal is to provide modern aircraft not only for the established western aviation market but also for the emerging Chinese market, allowing diesel or Jet A fueling options. Ideally pilots who learn to fly on the M10 platform would then move into Mooney’s M20s. The company is displaying a full-scale mock-up M10J at the show.
The M10J performance goals include cruise speeds greater than 170 KTAS and a range of more than 1,000 nm. The “J” designation is a nod to Mooney’s M20J, aka the Mooney 201, which was launched in the 1970s and is among the most fuel-efficient single-engine aircraft in its category.
“We designed the all new M10J model with longtime Mooney fans in mind,” said Dr. Jerry Chen, Mooney CEO. “The M20J helped change general aviation by making flying practical to more people across the U.S. Now, the M10J promises to do the same for the world. Not just in the U.S., but also in China as its general aviation industry quickly develops.”
