FAA Short-Term Funding Heads to President’s Desk

March 24, 2016 -  Congress gave itself some additional time to consider the major issues of FAA reauthorization as the House and Senate each approved a short-term continuing resolution for funding the agency through mid-July. That measure is now at the White House, awaiting an expected presidential signature.

EAA’s advocacy staff continues to stay very close to this issue as a Senate bill for FAA authorization, which contains several provisions beneficial to general aviation and no ATC privatization or user fees, awaits a full floor vote after the Senate’s Easter recess.

However, House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Bill Shuster (R-Pennsylvania) and the airline industry continue to push for ATC privatization contained in the House bill passed out of committee last month. Shuster is taking the Easter congressional recess to bolster support for ATC Privatization in anticipation of a vote on the House floor.

EAA continues to be very engaged on behalf of its members, keeping up continual contact with lawmakers and their staffs. We will alert members to contact lawmakers and rally support for the positive measures currently contained in the Senate FAA Reauthorization bill and opposition against ATC Privatization, if necessary. In the meantime, we encourage EAA members to follow updates from the EAA advocacy team to stay informed of the latest on FAA reauthorization and the potential consequences it could have on the future for recreational aviation.
