April 9, 2015 - Attention, those planning to attend this year’s Sun ’n Fun International Expo and Fly-In, scheduled April 21-26 at Lakeland Linder Regional Airport in Florida: Are you passionate about the many benefits of building an airplane? Do you have a desire to evangelize for the homebuilt movement? If so, EAA needs you to join the homebuilding ambassadors at Lakeland, who are volunteers eager to talk to others, answer questions, and exhort the virtues of building your own aircraft.

EAA has a number of special attractions planned to promote homebuilding at Sun ’n Fun. Parked right in front of the EAA tent will be the One Week Wonder aircraft, which was built by volunteers during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2014. We’ll also have a pull rivet board along with a Sonex Onex fuselage being clecoed together to demonstrate to attendees how easy it is to learn basic skills involved in building a kit aircraft.

“These activities are designed to rope people into a conversation about the benefits of building your own plane,” said Charlie Becker, EAA’s homebuilding community manager. “We’re looking for a few volunteers who are welcoming, enthusiastic, and who can help others along the journey from ‘That is a crazy idea,’ to ‘I can do this!’”

Homebuilding ambassadors are ideally active builders or those who have finished a homebuilt aircraft and want to share the joy of building. If you are outgoing and positive about homebuilding and the future of aviation, we encourage you to volunteer. This is one of the best opportunities we have to convince potentially thousands of people that homebuilding is right for them. Volunteering is a great way to get more involved, make new friends, and have fun, so let’s all pitch in together and help grow the homebuilt movement!

If you are going to be at Sun ’n Fun and would like to volunteer to be a homebuilding ambassador, please send Charlie Becker an e-mail.
