Emergency AD on Avidyne Flight Displays

May 21, 2015 – The FAA has issued an emergency airworthiness directive (AD) regarding Avidyne flight displays loaded with certain versions of the company’s software. The applicable models include Avidyne Integrated Flight Displays (IFDs) R9-10 inch loaded with software release 9.3.1.0 or earlier; R9-12 inch with software release 9.2.5.0 or earlier; and IFD540 loaded with software release 10.0.3.0 or earlier. The AD was prompted by reports of inaccurate position indications displayed by the affected systems on some GPS approaches.

The AD is effective immediately and requires owners to incorporate an operating limitation into their flight manuals that prohibit full procedure GPS approaches that involve a course change at the final approach fix (FAF), or an approach that involves a direct-to or omni-bearing selector leg to the FAF. The AD is voided and the limitation is lifted once the software has been updated.
