Lockwood AirCam Build for Young Eagles Kicks Off

June 8, 2017 - EAA’s volunteer AirCam build took off this week with eight EAA members from across the country gathering daily at the organization’s Kermit Weeks Flight Operations Center in Oshkosh.

The build, which will be broken up into at least six weeklong work sessions, is being held to celebrate the 25th anniversary of EAA’s Young Eagles program. Anyone from homebuilding novices to building experts is invited to attend, and by working together the first group of participants has already put the build ahead of schedule.

“Right now a lot of them are deburring some of the pieces we’ve drilled to size, and we started taking it apart,” said EAA aircraft maintenance technician Tracy Buttles, who is directing the build. “We’re working on the fuselage even though it’s not first in line.”

Volunteers have also had the opportunity to get private tours led by EAA staff of the EAA Aviation Museum and the Sonex aircraft facilities, and to attend a meeting of Oshkosh’s home Chapter 252.

Once complete, the AirCam will be operated out of EAA’s Pioneer Airport to provide flights for the Young Eagles program.
