The National Biplane Fly-In

June 9, 2016 - EAA members Greg Largen, EAA 438748, Randy Hardy, EAA Lifetime 754720, Ross Rogers, EAA 184872, and I took our Stearmans to the National Biplane Fly In at Freeman Field (3JC) Junction City, Kansas. Hosted by the EAA Flint Hills Chapter 1364, it’s a four-day fly-in with activities and fly outs planned for each day. Pilots and crew are welcomed to a hospitality tent on the flightline that has beverages and snacks available. Jim and Debbie Clark and the other volunteers do a fantastic job of hosting the event. Airplanes from as far away as California, Washington, Florida, and the surrounding states attended. This fly-in has been around for 30 years; the first 23 were in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and the last 7 in Junction City, Kansas. Young Eagles rides were available as well as other activities for children. People of all ages were in attendance enjoying being able to view and speak with the pilots of the biplanes and even the other “wing challenged airplanes.” We had a great time!
