T28 Trojan Flies With the B-17 Over Seattle

June 23, 2016 - Pinch me! Did this really happen? Was it a dream? Good thing I have photos to prove it! As an aerial photographer, I thought joining the Cascade Warbirds in Seattle would be an interesting experience, but never thought it would lead to getting once in a lifetime opportunity to get images I've only seen in magazines. The images here are a result of flying with Ron Morrell, commander of EAA Warbirds Squadron No. 2, the largest squadron. In his cherried-out T-28 Trojan, Morrell was my "chase pilot." We met at Paine Field to fly out then climbed into the cockpit, started up, and BOOM! POOF! Big cloud of black smoke (ah the smell of avgas in the morning!) and the engine hummed like a well-oiled machine. We left Paine Field to join up as the B-17 left Boeing Field and followed (at a very safe distance). We transitioned over Lake Washington and the longest floating bridge from the Eastside, over the University of Washington, Lake Union, and on into Seattle.
