One Week Wonder Winning Paint Scheme Revealed

July 9, 2018 - The results are in: After thousands of people voted for their choice, Sherwin-Williams Aerospace and EAA have unveiled the winner of the Pick the Paint Poll for EAA’s 2018 One Week Wonder Van’s RV-12iS.

The One Week Wonder project allowed EAA staff and experienced volunteers to show how people can build their own aircraft, and was built in just seven days during the week of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2018, July 23-29. It was completed on July 29 and flown for the first time on July 30.

Sherwin-Williams Aerospace’s Pick the Paint Poll, made in collaboration with Scheme Designers, Inc., was one of the interactive components of this year’s One Week Wonder project.

The three finalist paint scheme designs were created by Scheme Designers, Inc. with paints donated from Sherwin-Williams Aerospace. The color scheme includes colors Snow White, Indian Silver Pearl, Azure Sapphire Pearl, and Cobalt Blue Metallic. The aircraft will also be painted with Sherwin-Williams’ SKYscapes General Aviation Basecoat and Clearcoat.

Visitors and volunteers were able to cast their votes to decide what the Van’s RV-12iS would look like after its completion. In all, more than 3,000 aviation enthusiasts cast their votes online prior to AirVenture and in-person at the show. Out of the three paint schemes, the winning design gathered 41 percent of votes cast.

Additional donations from sponsors include an aircraft engine from Rotax and avionics from Garmin. Additionally, SteinAir, Inc. provided the avionics panel and Aircraft Spruce sponsored the pins given out to those who pulled a rivet as part of the project.

Rose Aircraft Services, Inc. General Aviation Solutions is scheduled to paint the aircraft in mid-September.
