EAA Members Restore Biplane for Kansas High School

Wichita East High School Blue Aces represented with homebuilt

August 17, 2017 - Wichita East High School picked the Blue Aces as a mascot to commemorate World War I fighter pilots, but until recently there was no actual airplane there. The high school is set to unveil a restored, homebuilt biplane and to suspend it from the gym ceiling to help signify the Blue Aces history and significance in a ceremony on Thursday night.

Dave Blanton, EAA 117684, and Steve Manweiler, EAA 140733, volunteered to do the restoration on the airframe, an original design built in 1976 called the Pierce biplane, which was donated by a former teacher from Oklahoma who was only interested in its engine.
