EAA Supports FAA GA Engine Summit

September 14, 2017 - This week EAA staff participated in the FAA’s second General Aviation Engine Summit at the FAA New England Regional Headquarters in Burlington, Massachusetts. The Summit was an opportunity to bring industry together with FAA engine and propeller certification staff to discuss a range of topics in an open and collaborative forum, including continuing airworthiness processes and policy, development of airworthiness directives and alternative methods of compliance, and ways that industry and FAA can work better together to arrive at the best possible outcomes for safety with a minimum impact on aircraft owners and operators.

There was also considerable information exchanged on the reorganization of the FAA’s aircraft certification division and how that is intended to help foster innovation and efficiency in product development and certification. The summit was attended by engine, propeller, and PMA parts manufacturers as well as industry representative organizations such as EAA. Everyone involved concluded that the exchange was a very positive and worthwhile initiative and with a desire to hold a similar session again next year.
