EAA Members Nearly Sweep Gold Classes at Reno

September 20, 2018 - EAA members won five of six Gold classes in the 2018 STIHL National Championship Air Races in Reno, Nevada, that concluded on Sunday. Joel Swager, EAA 845073, of Ione, California, won the Unlimited Gold class in the Hawker T Mk.20  Sea Fury Dreadnought.

Other Gold class winners include Justin Meaders of Fort Worth, Texas, who won the Formula One Gold class in Limitless, a Snoshoo SR-1; Andrew Buehler, EAA 372966, of Olalla, Washington, who won the Biplane Gold class in Phantom, a modified Mong Sport; Andrew Findlay, EAA 1034372, of McCall, Idaho, who won the Sport Gold class in Lancair Super Legacy One Moment; John Lohmar, EAA Lifetime 220061, of Dallas, Texas, who won the T-6 Gold class in Radial Velocity, an SNJ-5; and Mike Steiger, EAA 627132, of Cypress, Texas, who won the Jet Gold class in American Spirit, an Aero L-39 Albatros.

Additionally, the following EAAers also took top-three places in their races:

Curt Brown, EAA 398832, took third place in the Unlimited Gold race in Hawker FB Mk.11 Sea Fury Sawbones.

Steve Senegal, EAA 478025, took second place in the Formula One Gold race and first place in the 2018 Formula One Silver race in Arnold AR-6 Endeavor.

Ryszard Zadow, EAA 258833, took third place in the Formula One Silver race in Cassutt Last Lap Player.

John D’Alessandris, EAA 684238, took second place in the Biplane Gold race in RB Special, a Pitts S-1S.

Scott Thomson, EAA 1216968, took third place in the Biplane Gold race in Second Hand, a Pitts S-1C.

Anthony Oshinuga, EAA 1047512, took second place in the Biplane Silver race in Black Hawk, a Pitts S-1S.

Casey Erickson, EAA 815630, took third place in the Biplane Silver race in The Batplane, a Pitts S-1S.

Bob Mills, EAA 836052, took third place in the Sport Gold race in Mojo, a Super Glasair III.

Ernie Sutter, EAA 759979, took first place in the Sport Silver race in Jus Pass’n Thru, a Lancair Legacy.

Vicky Benzing, EAA Lifetime 529264, took second place in the Sport Silver race in Lucky Girl, a Lancair Legacy.

Jessy Panzer, EAA 641360, took third place in the Sport Silver race in Glasair SH-3R Cruse Missile.

Eric Woelbing, EAA Lifetime 364195, took first place in the T-6 Silver race in AT-6C Miss TNT.

Gene McNeely, EAA 304611, took second place in the T-6 Silver race in AT-6 Baby Boomer.
