EAA Supporting GoFly Flight Design Competition

September 28, 2017 - EAA is among several aviation organizations supporting the new GoFly $2 million, two-year international incentive competition to create a personal flying device that can be safely used by anyone, anywhere.

Boeing is the grand sponsor of the GoFly Prize competition. The contest’s goal is to catalyze the creation of a safe, quiet, ultra-compact, near-VTOL personal flying device capable of flying 20 miles while carrying a single person or human-like payload. EAA is one of the aviation organizations helping spread the word about this new design opportunity to our members and other aviation enthusiasts.

People can participate in GoFly in two ways: organize a team to compete and win up to $2 million in prizes, or mentor teams within your particular area of expertise.

GoFly offers three prize phases:

  1. Phase 1 offers 10 prizes at $20,000 each, based on paper technical specifications.
  2. Phase 2 offers four prizes at $50,000 each, based on a VTOL demonstration.
  1. Phase 3 prizes are awarded at a final fly off for a total of $1.6 million.

All teams will have the opportunity to learn from world-renowned aviation leaders in monthly global webinars and when one-on-one help is needed, all teams will have access to the GoFly mentor program, where teams work directly with mentors in their specific areas of need.

EAA welcomes GoFly and this historic endeavor, and we invite all our members to help make aviation history. For full rules and to register, please visit the website.
