Space Day 2019 Was a Blast

October 17, 2019 - Space Day 2019 is in the books. This year the EAA Aviation Museum set record numbers with more than 1,300 people attending the event on October 12. The event focuses on space flight and getting kids of all ages engaged with aerospace through hands-on activities.

Attendees were able to build and test their own spacecraft, climb inside of full-scale replicas of Mercury and Gemini spacecraft, fly to the moon in a Saturn V rocket in a new virtual reality experience, and take part in many other activities. These activities are manned by our amazing volunteers as well as members of the Fox Cities Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol. We also hosted the Wisconsin Garrison of the 501st Legion, which allowed us to have some characters from a galaxy far, far away.

EAA's own superhero Aviore was on hand to sign comic books and get in on the photos as well. A new model building contest saw 15 entries judged, and the top two in each category won a prize. This year was a smash hit, and there are already plans to add new activities and events for Space Day 2020.
