EAA Aviation Adventure Speaker Series Going Strong

By Chris Henry, EAA Museum Programs Coordinator

December 26, 2019 - In the past year I have been very fortunate to see our EAA Aviation Adventure Speaker Series really take off. If you have been following along or attending, you will have had the chance to see speakers and aviators from many different walks of life.

Their missions have been as diverse as the speakers themselves. We have had everyone from gunship pilots who fought in the deserts of Afghanistan to those who flew exotic and top-secret aircraft like the F-117 Nighthawk and SR-71 Blackbird. We have had people come to talk about saving and restoring important pieces of aviation history such as the famous B-17 Memphis Belle, and we even welcomed Elvis Presley’s personal pilot. We have hosted everyone from Apache helicopter pilots to Buffalo Airways pilots who fly cargo up in the frozen Northwest Territories.

One of the most special parts of this series is that after these interesting speakers give their presentations, the audience has a chance to interact with them. You can ask questions and even come up and get an autograph. It has been a lot of fun to watch the crowd grow steadily as word has gotten out about this program. The crowds have increased from 30 to 40 people to an average of about 200. Not only has it been fun to watch the event grow, in true EAA fashion I have made friends at these events whom I look forward to seeing each month.

It has been an incredible experience to work with so many amazing people, and the 2020 speakers are being lined up as we speak. We have some very special presenters ready to go for next year’s series, which will certainly not disappoint. Join us in 2020 and enjoy the opportunity to see and hear some of these legendary aviators in a setting you won’t find anywhere else.
