EAA Insurance Solutions – New Year’s Insurance Resolutions

January 7, 2015 - Many of us have made New Year’s resolutions in hopes of improving our lives, but here’s one you probably never thought of: Take out your aircraft insurance policy and read it! I could give you a lengthy list of reasons you should do this, but I’ll just make it simple by asking you some questions.

• Is your name and address correct on your policy?
• How much is your airplane insured for? Are you sure?
• Who can fly you airplane?
• Does your policy provide insurance if you fly another airplane?
• Who pays for an attorney if you need one after an accident?
• Where can you fly your airplane? Canada, Alaska, Bahamas, Mexico?
• If your engine breaks down is it covered?
• What are you supposed to do if you have an accident? Who should you contact?
• Who is an “insured”?

If you can answer these questions, then good for you! Go to the health club and work on that other resolution you made. But if you’re not sure then resolve to get out your policy and read it. Use a highlighter to mark anything you don’t understand, then e-mail or call your insurance agent.
