Captain Richard de Crespigny was born and educated in Melbourne, Australia. In 1975, at age 17, he joined the Royal Australian Air Force Academy, flying one year later. After 11 years with the RAAF he left to join Qantas, flying B747s. Starting 2008, he flew A380s, as one of Qantas’ most senior captains.
