Safety Wire Newsletter Is Back!

February 2017 - Welcome to the “new” quarterly newsletter for technical counselors (TCs) and flight advisors (FAs). Last year we surveyed all TC/FAs about the program, and the one theme that emerged was that you wanted more communication from EAA. Instead of reinventing the wheel, we decided to resurrect the newsletter Safety Wire. Many of you will remember it from a few years ago. This time it will be all digital.

Our goal with this electronic newsletter is to provide you with information from both EAA and other sources that may be useful in your role as a TC or FA. Vic Syracuse, who serves on our homebuilt aircraft council, has committed to providing grist for a new column called Found in the Field. As the name implies, these will be articles and information he has come across in his role as an amateur-built designated airworthiness representative (AB-DAR), TC, and as an A&P. Many of you know Vic from his writings for Kitplanes Magazine.

Many of you met Tracy Buttles last year at AirVenture Oshkosh. I hired Tracy as our safety programs coordinator. Tracy has recently accepted another EAA position working in our aircraft maintenance department. Congratulations Tracy! Overall this is good news for EAA, but it leaves me shorthanded.

More good news is that Joe Norris has returned to EAA as flight training manager. After leaving EAA he worked at Sonex Aircraft running their transition training program. Joe will be responsible for running EAA’s Sport Pilot Academy program. Welcome back Joe!
