EAA Docents Visit Lambeau Field

By Zack Baughman, EAA Lifetime 530987, Museum Exhibit Coordinator

October 2015 - There are few things more sacred in Wisconsin than the Green Bay Packers. The Packers are the only publicly owned nonprofit professional sports franchise in the United States, and they are greatly loved by their thousands of fans. The Packers make their home at Lambeau Field, the oldest continually operated stadium in the National Football League. Named for the team’s founder and first coach, Earl Louis “Curly” Lambeau, Lambeau Field is to Packer fans as Oshkosh is to the aviation world. Visiting Lambeau Field is a special experience.

Just as the Packers are sacred to Wisconsin, there is nothing more sacred to EAA than the multitude of volunteers who share their passion and enthusiasm with the organization throughout the year. One group of volunteers who give to the organization year-round is the docents of the EAA AirVenture Museum. From welcoming guests to giving educational tours of the museum collection, docents are one of the museum’s greatest assets, and as such, they have opportunities to receive special recognition.

As a thank you for their gift of time and passion to the museum, EAA recently treated the docents to a visit to Lambeau Field to get a behind-the-scenes look at the home of the Green Bay Packers. The day trip to Green Bay included a fantastic guided tour of one of the VIP viewing suites, a visit to the revered “frozen tundra” via the tunnel the team takes to the field, and the Packers Hall of Fame. Following lunch at the stadium’s newly renovated 1919 Kitchen and Tap (the team was founded in 1919), the group spent some time in the Packers Pro Shop, where many of the docents purchased new gear for the 2015 season. A fine time was had by all.

Trips like this are just one of the many ways that EAA recognizes the year-round contributions of our museum docents. If you would like to find out more about becoming a docent and sharing in the fun, or other year-round volunteer opportunities with EAA, visit www.eaa.org/volunteer.
