Young Eagles Raffle OSH14 in Review

By Jonathan Maxwell, EAA 806074, Young Eagles Raffle Volunteer Chair

Before AirVenture 2014, a family member asked why I volunteer each year for the Young Eagles Raffle. My answer to this question is simple:  I enjoy making people happy and giving back. Over the past six years as a raffle volunteer,  I have worked with some awesome people who donate their time and efforts to raise money for a great program within EAA, the Young Eagles program.

Raffle volunteers are a special bunch that has the difficult job of selling raffle tickets  at $100 each. This year our volunteers sold 1,032 tickets. We had a couple of new faces this year but the majority of our volunteers have been returning to help year after year. To the “Raffle Crew,” I am grateful to you for allowing me to work for you this year and years to come. To everybody that is the backbone of this event that I call home for almost two weeks every year, many thanks are in order because I love coming each year and always have a good time.

Here are some facts about the Young Eagles Raffle:  Each year, starting in March or thereabouts, a raffle is held to support EAA’s Young Eagles Program.  The grand prize this year was a ruby red metallic 2014 Ford Mustang GT convertible. The car, along with the second prize of $5,000 and third prize of $2,500, were all given away in a drawing on the final Sunday of AirVenture. Three lucky individuals walked away with these great prizes and were incredibly happy – which reinforces why I come back and volunteer each year.

I would like to express my gratitude to everyone that supports the Young Eagles Program as well as other EAA programs that either gets us flying, or keeps us flying. As is customary, I can’t wait for OSH15 and “See you next year!”
