Four Corners Offer Something for Everyone at AirVenture

By Ti Windisch, EAA Publications Intern

June 8, 2017 - EAA AirVenture Oshkosh can be somewhat overwhelming for first-time visitors and grizzled veterans of the fly-in alike. With thousands of aircraft and hundreds of thousands of visitors, there’s no shortage of activities to do, sights to see, and people to meet.

The EAA Four Corners is a fantastic resource for each and every AirVenture visitor. The four areas that make up the Four Corners — the EAA AirVenture Welcome Center, EAA Discover Aviation Corner, EAA Pilot Proficiency Center, and EAA Member Center — all function slightly differently, but with the shared goal of growing participation in aviation.

“We like to call EAA’s Four Corners people’s first stop when they get to AirVenture,” said Dave Chaimson, EAA’s vice president of marketing and business development. “It’s structured to provide four different, unique experiences for people. Even if they’re an AirVenture veteran there’s still a lot to learn there, but it’s especially important for people who are new to come to Four Corners.”

The Welcome Center is a perfect introduction to the week’s festivities in Oshkosh for AirVenture attendees. The Welcome Center offers an overview of what’s going on, and where it’s happening, in each area throughout the week.

The stage in the Welcome Center will allow attendees to meet air show performers, authors, and aviation legends. AirVenture keepsakes can also be found here, in the form of AirVenture Oshkosh 2017 souvenirs. Finally, if you need to find an event or an area, folks in the Welcome Center can help out.

The Discover Aviation Corner will feature the Spirit of Aviation Mobile Experience this year, a trailer that allows guests to get hands-on with aspects of aviation such as cookie cutter building activities with real aircraft materials, a foam glider building activity, a VR experience, and Redbird TD flight simulators.

Additionally, the 25th anniversary of the Young Eagles program will be celebrated at the Discover Aviation Corner. Visitors can learn more about how to register for Young Eagles flights, take a photo with the 25th anniversary logo and pick up a free gift.

Any AirVenture attendees who wish to bulk up on their knowledge of flying can visit the EAA Pilot Proficiency Center, a part of the Four Corners dedicated to making flying safer and making pilots better at what they do.

In addition to 13 Redbird LD flight simulators as well as a Redbird Crosswind simulator, the Pilot Proficiency Center also offers experts available to talk shop, Tech Talks with varying topics, and the ability for pilots to earn FAA WINGS pilot proficiency program credit.

Finally, there is the EAA Member Center. EAA always strives to ensure members feel at home whenever they visit, and the EAA Member Center offers plenty of opportunities for members to talk to EAA staff in person, a rare opportunity for some members who live thousands of miles from Oshkosh!

Representatives from EAA membership benefits, lifetime membership, chapters, IMC/VMC Clubs, Young Eagles, Eagle Flights, and the government advocacy staff will all be around to speak to members, as will membership services experts who can help you renew your membership, explore programs and benefits and introduce you to other likeminded members.

The EAA Four Corners can be found on the intersection of Celebration Way and Knapp Street throughout AirVenture. Come say hi when you’re in Oshkosh!
