Vintage Forums Schedule Announced for AirVenture 2018
June 14, 2018 - There will be a full schedule of Vintage Forums throughout the week of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2018. The forums, supported by B&C Specialty Products, will all be held in the Vintage Hangar, found just south of the VAA Red Barn.
Monday, July 23
8 a.m. — VAA Town Hall Meeting
Presented by Susan Dusenbury
Meet and talk with the VAA officers and directors over free coffee and donuts. Vintage leaders will discuss recent activities of the association, current plans, and our goals for the future. This is your opportunity to express your thoughts and our opportunity to hear them.
9 a.m. — Luscombe Association Forum
Presented by Scott O'Brien
Come to hear everything Luscombe. Scott, President of the Luscombe Association, will discuss current topics with Luscombe airplanes and recent activities of the club.
10 a.m. — Fun & Affordable Vintage Aircraft
Presented by Bill Pancake
So you want to buy a vintage airplane? Bill Pancake, A&P/IA, will discuss all aspects of purchasing and owning vintage aircraft, such as pre-purchase inspections, operation costs, maintenance, and parts availability. He’ll also suggest some fun and affordable entry-level vintage aircraft to look into!
11 a.m. — Taylorcraft Owner's Club Forum
Presented by John Hofmann
Come to hear everything Taylorcraft. This forum will discuss current topics with Taylorcraft airplanes and recent activities of the club.

8 a.m. — New Unleaded Avgas for Vintage Aircraft
Presented by Brian Stirm
With the development and availability of new unleaded fuels for aviation, specifically UL94 avgas, this forum will give an overview of the historic use of unleaded fuels in general and the new marketplace of unleaded fuels both now and in the future. This will be an understandable technical discussion of important fuel properties that all older aircraft operators should be aware of.
9 a.m. — Swift Museum Foundation Forum
Presented by Jim “Frog” Jones
Come to learn about everything Swift. Presented by Jim “Frog” Jones, president of the Swift Museum Foundation, this forum will discuss the airplane’s history, current topics with the Swift, and recent activities of the club. This year is the 50th anniversary of the Swift Museum Foundation, so this will be a forum you don’t want to miss.
10 a.m. — ADS-B & Vintage Airplanes
Presented by Dave Abrams
Dave Abrams, member of the Ercoupe Owners Club, will be talking all about ADS-B and its integration with vintage airplanes. Topics in this forum will include what ADS-B is, how to install it, why ADS-B is more expensive for Ercoupe owners, what your options are for meeting the ADS-B mandate and what the choices and costs are for meeting the mandate.
11 a.m. — Youth Forum
Presented by Dillon Barron
Calling all young people who are interested in aviation! This forum is being put on by our Vintage Youth Ambassadors — all young people with a wide variety of involvement in aviation, from flying to maintenance to engineering. Come hear their stories and learn how you can get involved in the aviation world, too! This forum is for the young and young at heart — all are welcome.
Wednesday, July 25
8 a.m. — Mods & STCs on Small Continental Engines
Presented by Don Wade
Don Wade will be discussing everything related to modifications and STCs on smaller Continental engines, such as the A-65s, C-85s, O-200s, etc. Don holds the STCs for many of the mods for these engines, so he’s the guy to talk to if you have any questions.
9 a.m. — Ask the AME
Presented by Dr. John Patterson
Come and ask an AME any questions you have about your next flight medical exam, acceptable medications, blood pressure readings, which medical exemptions are available, etc. Ask your questions without the stress of asking during your flight physical exam.

Presented by Clyde Smith
Clyde Smith, “The Cub Doctor,” will present his famous safety walk around of the fabric Piper that will be helpful for any aircraft preflight inspection. This hour-long program will cover how to make sure your aircraft is safe to fly every time you prepare to aviate. Clyde loves answering questions, so bring them to this forum.
9 a.m. — Utilization of Drones in NTSB Investigations

Drones are everywhere in the news these days, with many stories of risks and dangers, but have you ever thought of drones as something that can help transportation safety? The NTSB is putting small drones to good use during investigations. Mapping accident scenes, getting in close to hazardous sites, and modelling terrain and wreckage are being done today with the help of drones in NTSB investigations. Learn how this “drones for good” application can help to make aviation safer.
