Hinton Wins Another Unlimited Title, EAAers Win and Place at Reno

Steve Hinton won his sixth consecutive Reno Unlimited Gold title in the P-51D Voodoo at the Reno National Air Races, September 10-14.

September 17, 2014 - Steven Hinton, Jr. won his sixth consecutive Breitling Unlimited Gold championship at last weekend’s Reno National Air Races held at Reno-Stead Field, Nevada. The Chino, California, pilot flew the P-51D Mustang Voodoo, to an average speed of 462.926 mph to clinch the title.

Other Gold race winners included: Formula One, Steve Senegal, EAA 478025, from San Bruno, California, in the AR-6 Endeavor with an average speed of 252.090 mph; Biplane, Jake Stewart from Benbrook, Texas, in the Pitts S-1 Bad Mojo, 225.022 mph; Jet, Phil Fogg of Tualatin, Oregon in the L-39 Fast Company, 495.244 mph; Sport, Jeff LaVelle from Mukilteo, Washington, in Glasair III Race 39, 398.960 mph; and T-6, Dennis Buehn, EAA 168777/Warbirds 2637, from Fallon, Nevada, with AT-6 Midnight Miss III, 239.163 mph.

Several other EAAers placed, including:

The Reno National Championship Air Races paid tribute to Lee Behel, EAA Lifetime 278620, with a missing man formation during Thursday's welcoming ceremony. Behel, of San Jose, California, died on September 8 when his Sport Class GP-5 Sweet Dreams crashed during a qualifying heat.
