The Webster Memorial Trophy was initiated by Dr. J.C. Webster in 1931 in memory of his son, John, who died in an accident while practising aerobatics in St. Hubert, Quebec, for a competition. It is intended to find the best pilot who is not paid commercially for flying. The contest is in two phases, regional and national, with the nationals being held this year in Dieppe, New Brunswick, August 19-23. The regional finalists will have their flights between major airports paid for by Air Canada as well as their accommodations for six days.

There are two components to the regionals, a flight test and an online examination. The flight test results can either be from a recent flight test or you can sign up for a test with a Transport Canada approved examiner.

The regions are basically aligned along provincial boundaries, but Ontario has three regions and Atlantic Canada is treated as one region.
