EAA Mourns Two Lost in Sonex Accident

June 4, 2015 – EAA and the homebuilt community are mourning the loss of two Sonex Aircraft employees, including Sonex CEO Jeremy Monnett, in an airplane Jeremy Monnettaccident Tuesday afternoon at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh.

Along with Monnett, Sonex assembly mechanic Mike Clark was killed when the accident occurred in their Sonex Sport Acro just off the east end of Wittman’s runway 9/27 at about 3:30 p.m. CDT on Tuesday. The NTSB and FAA are continuing their investigation into the accident.

“We are heartbroken to learn of the deaths of Jeremy Monnett and Mike Clark in Tuesday’s aircraft accident at Wittman Regional Airport,” EAA Chairman Jack Pelton said. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to our friends in the Monnett family, who are longtime personal friends and deeply intertwined with EAA.

“Our condolences also go to Mike Clark’s family at this difficult time, as he also had a passion for aviation that he was just beginning to pursue as a career.”

 The 40-year-old Monnett was deeply involved in EAA and homebuilt activities. Those included
EAA's safety committee and Type Club CoalitionMichael Clark, as well as the Aircraft Kit Industry Association (AKIA).

Pelton and EAA staff members have been in regular contact with our Sonex neighbors here at Oshkosh. A visitation and memorial service for Jeremy Monnett will be held at the EAA Eagle Hangar this Sunday, June 7. For details, please visit the Sonex website.
