February 2024 – Greetings,
Sorry if I jinxed the weather with my comments last month about how mild it had been. Most of Canada recently experienced a vortex of brutal cold, just to remind us that it is January!

I’d like to thank those that provided me with feedback on their experiences with the EAA C-Plan insurance package and customer service from the broker. I have had discussions with EAA, and they have agreed that it’s time to seek proposals from brokers and underwriters for insurance programs for Canadian EAA members. The last time this was done was 15 years ago.

By the time you read this, our Canadian countdown to AirVenture will be around 160 days. We will have more details on how our Little Canada camping area will work this year, so if you are interested in being part of it, please email your expression of interest to Phil at chapters.eaacc@gmail.com. EAA has informed us that they will revamp the program to align closer to Chapter Camping, so expect some changes from last year.

We are ramping up our preparations for our Canadian Pavilion at AirVenture. If you plan to be there and have a presentation idea, please email me. We are anticipating to once again have a pilot currency seminar, as well as sessions on filing EAPIS, Canadian Airspace 101, flying to and from Canada, and would really like presentations on flying in Canada — with a goal of sharing the beauty of Canada from the air.

By now, you’ve probably heard that the Snowbirds will be at AirVenture. We have requested them as special guests at our Canadian Breakfast, which may result in a date change from the day we’ve typically held the breakfast. Watch for more news on that.

We continue to advocate for EAA members and general aviation by participating in Transport Canada working groups that are addressing stabilized approach, voluntary reporting of incidents, ADS-B in Canada, and new regulatory changes on night VFR. We have stressed to Transport Canada that their presence at AirVenture would be valuable.

Email me at chair.eaacc@gmail.com with your thoughts.
